Featured in this auction is a magnificent set of two large Jade – Jadeite discs, which are estimated to have been produced in China. Both discs have a scene of flying birds around a tree. The decoration includes semi-precious stones (including coral) and soap-stone (used in the tree). Please note that one of the discs has some losses, mainly the base of the tree, while the other has some minor damages in one of the branches of the tree. Finally, one of the wood bases has two small missing corners. In spite of the above, both of them display magnificently. The wood bases are the original ones for the discs.
Each disc is 19.5” tall (including the wood base), 13.7” long and 4.5” wide (the disc’s diameter is 13.7”). |

Featured in this auction is a unique and rare magnificent tea caddy which is estimated to have been made in India in the late 18C. The box is richly carved in wood (possibly mahogany), tooth, mother of pearl and metal (silver?) inlay accents. A tea caddy is a box, jar, canister or other receptacle used to store tea. The word is believed to be derived from catty, the Chinese pound. Tea caddies were made in a great variety of materials, wood being the most frequently used. On the whole the mahogany or rosewood caddies of the 18th – 19th century are, from the artistic point of view, the most elegant and satisfying. The wood was rich and well-marked, the inlay simple and delicate, the form graceful and unobtrusive. Tea caddies have never gone entirely out of use, though handsome examples are now most commonly regarded as ornaments or preserved in collections. The tea caddy was a typically English product. The tea caddy at auction is in excellent condition (given its age of more than 200 years) and shows some signs of wear. Part of the inlay is slightly bent, but in general this does not detract from the beauty of this box.
The size of the tea is 5.9” X 10” x 5.5” (H x L x W). |
Featured in this auction is an outstanding hand painted putti centrepiece made in porcelain, which is estimated to have been produced in Spain in the early 20C. The quality of the porcelain is very good and the putti have angelical expressions similar to the high-quality porcelain figures from famous studios in Germany and France. This set can be paired with the candleholders, which are being auctioned separately. As can be seen in the photos the whole garniture will look terrific in any collection. The centrepiece depicts a charming hunting scene where three putti make preparations to cook the prey (duck), while two hunting dogs look intrigued with the corresponding preparations and the hunted prey.
The centrepiece is marked at the bottom with an “S” and a little sun on the top, there is an incised number as well “702”. This porcelain item is in pristine condition, there are no chips, dents, cracks or restorations.
The size of the centrepiece is (L x W x H): 13.8” x 7.6” x 10.5”. |

Featured in this auction is an outstanding vintage nativity set made by ANRI in the late 20th Century. I purchased the set during a trip I made to Bermuda. The seller, from whom I purchased the set, indicated to me that it was manufactured of Cedar wood from Bermuda, which was exported to Italy to manufacture only a limited amount of Nativity sets, which were shipped back to the island. The set was made by an artist named Bernardi and is numbered 18/50 as this is a limited edition. All the items in this set have the authenticity label of the famous manufacturer ANRI in Italy. The set is made of 10 figurines, all of them in perfect condition and all figurines come with their original boxes. The retail price of this item was USD$1,500 and I am putting it at auction at a low reserve price.
The quality of the carvings is exceptional (as shown in the photos). This is a very collectable and unique item that is ideal for your Christmas decoration.
The size of each figurine in the set is as follows: · Virgin Mary 3” tall, 1.5” wide and 2.5” long · St. Joseph 4” tall, 1.3” wide and 2.3” long · Baby Jesus 1.2” tall, 1.1” wide and 2” long · Casper 4” tall, 1.6” wide and 2.5” long · Balthazar 4.2” tall, 2.3” wide and 1.8” long · Melchior 2.8” tall, 1.6” wide and 2.7” long · Shepherd 4” tall, 2.3” wide and 1.8” long · Ox 2.2” tall, 1.8” wide and 3.2” long · Donkey 2.7” tall, 1” wide and 3.2” long · Sheep 1.4” tall, 1” wide and 1.6” long
